Many people have a variety of aerial on there roofs but have no idea what they are there for. Here is a quick guide to the most common sites.
H-Aerial
These are some of the first aerials ever installed. Obsolete now and if you still have one on your roof is must be so old that it will not be long before a wind brings it down!
Analogue TV Aerial
This is was the most commonly installed aerial of the 80’s and 90’s. Designed for analogue television it is not technically compatible with digital reception.
Digital Television Aerial
Most commonly installed aerials of today. They come in various shapes, colours and sizes.
DAB Radio Aerial
This aerial receives digital radio signals and comes as a 5 element or Omni version. These aerials are aligned vertically.
BB Grid Television Aerial
This aerial was designed to eliminate
ghosting
only when the signal is reflected from an obstacle directly behind the aerial.
FM Radio Aerial
These aerials come in 3, 4, 5 and 8 element versions. Designed for receiving analogue radio reception there is also an Omni version which looks like a ring.
