Motorised Satellite Systems
For those of you who wish to have access to a wide range of satellite channels from across the world then a motorised satellite system is the answer. Such a system typically consists of a satellite dish 80cm to 1 metre in size mounted on to motorised unit and a set-top box by your television. Commands are sent from the set-top box, via a multicore cable connected to the motorised unit, which tells the dish which satellite to align to.
The external equipment required for a motorised dish is not very heavy and can easy be attached to a wall, chimney or, for a really discrete installation, through roof tiles (see pictures below).
An illustrated step by step example of a motorised roof mount installation
Step 1
We removed one roof tile from our chosen location.
A 2" pole was lowered through the roof and fixed to the loft beams.
|
 |
Step 2
The pole is cut to size.
|
 |
Step 3
The removed tile is replaced with a waterproof tile.
Sealant is added for additional weatherproofing.
|
 |
Step 4
The satellite dish is installed on to the pole.
Finally the dish is aligned to the required satellite/s.

The finished article
Roof installations are ideal when you need the dish hidden.
In most cases the roof completely hides the dish from view from the front of the house.
