Foreign Channels

Satellite channels are available from nearly every country in Europe, and beyond.

Languages available include French, Spanish, German, Italian....to the more obscure languages such as Latvian, Ukrainian, Icelandic and Albanian.

There are many types of satellite dish available to receive foreign channels. The pictures above are some of the extreme methods when a customer has requested specific channels from a weak satellite. Many of the European channels only require a 60cm dish (seen in the picture top right). Such dishes can be installed on roofs, behind chimneys, in the garden or simply on the wall. They are generally made of a black mesh material which makes them appear slightly transparent.

There are many satellites broadcasting foreign channels and some of our customers want the choice from 2 or more of them. This can be achieved easily by one of the 3 methods pictured below. The first picture (bottom left) shows a dish which is capable of receiving up to 5 satellites at the same time. It is the equivalent of having 5 individual satellite dishes. The second picture shows a motorised dish. This dish is controlled by a motor which swings it from East to West along the line of the satellites in the sky. This type of installation offers the customer the widest choice of satellite channels. Finally, the third picture shows an installation where we have installed a dish for each required satellite.

A list of the most popular satellites watched in this country, and the channels viewed.

Astra 19.2° East

This satellite used to broadcast analogue Sky but is now used to broadcast digital European channels. More popular with Germans than anyone else because of the wide choice of German programmes available, but this satellite also caters for the Dutch, French, Spanish and many other European channels.

Hotbird 13°East

Another European satellite broadcasting over 1000 channels mainly from Europe but also from further afar. Italy is the main focus of this satellite and there are over 50 Italian channels available. You can also receive the main channels from Poland, France and Greece. There is a group of channels on this satellite which broadcast Premiership matches on a Saturday, and league matches from the top-flight of other countries. You can also receive movie channels including blue movies.

Astra 28.2° East

This is the satellite which broadcasts Sky Digital. Most of the channels require a Sky digi-box but if you hook up a standard FTA satellite receiver then you can receive a decent selection of free channels including BBC1 & 2, ITV, News and more.

Turksat 42° East

As the name suggests this is the main satellite for Turkish channels. Over 50 channels are available and most of them are free.

Hispasat 30° West

All the Spanish and Portuguese channels you could wish for!

Nilesat 7° West

For the best of Arabic television this is the satellite you need. There are many popular channels (such as Al Jazeera) and nearly all of them are free. Unfortunately the reception is weak in the UK and so requires a dish in excess of 1 metre width.

Arabsat 26° East

More Arabic television. In fact, over 50 channels and the majority of them are free.

There are so many channels available from all over the globe that it is impossible to list them all here. If you would like to know if a particular language is available to you or if there is a certain channel/s you require then give us a call at our office and we will do our best to advise you.
